Applause and gift cards were passed out at the last corporate meeting.
"Let's all give a big round of applause to store 95143 in Rurlvaria. They broke new records this year with flu shots! They did over 3,000 flu shots this season and that's about ten times more than the rest of your averages!" said the pharmacy director.
That's great, but did anyone bother to explain that store 95143 is the ONLY pharmacy within a 50 mile radius where they are? Here at my Goofmart we have two Urgent Care facilities, a Wagmart, Flea Circus Drugs, an SVC, and ANOTHER Goofmart all within a two mile radius and ALL these locations push flu shots?
No, no one explained that. I might also mention that store 95143 has nine technicians and about 20 hours of pharmacist overlap time, but I digress. I didn't get a gift card. But I did a fake clap like everyone else in the room.
What a load.

Happens in my district too. Super slow store in a largely, upper to middle-class, suburban setting manages to get tons of flu shots. Surprise, its the only pharmacy within a 2 mile radius.
My store? There are SEVEN other stores within a 2 mile radius not counting other companies. Start looking at the competition and the number goes to NINETEEN.
But somehow, according to the bean-counting, masters of the universe MBA's in their corner offices, I'm supposed to get just as many flu shots as the cushy suburban store with tons of tech hours and pharmacist overlap EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK.
Shoot me now.
