"Perfect!"

It's funny how different sayings change over time. I'm getting old enough now to see how colloquialism changes with the passage of time.

In the 1960s and 1970s things were "Groovy" and "Far out."

In the 1980s a pleasant situation was "bitchin," "gnarly," "cool," or "radical." I used these all the time but that might give away my age. Yeah, I'm old.

In the 1990s it was "Fly" or "Sweet."

In the 2000s things were "Rah" or "Sick."

But over the past few months I've noticed the emergence of a new term or colloquialism to describe a beneficial or optimum situation. You've probably heard it too and may even have used it not realizing you're using the latest colloquialism or slang. And the more I hear it the more I realize that it is definitely something new in the current times.

Examples:

"Did the doctor call in my prescription refill?"

"Yes, she did, with three additional refills."

"Perfect!"

"Do you have Vitamin E oil for sale?"

"No, but they have it at Sprinkles down by the mall."

"Perfect."

"When will my prescription be ready?"

"I'll have it ready in 15-20 minutes."

"Perfect."

With all this perfection going on in the world it is hard to imagine how we have an election coming up with two completely imperfect candidates, but that's another story. But what we do have is the emergence of a colloquialism that in the future will be identified as having been used in the 2010s.

And that's perfect.
